1431 Expat Employees Were Terminated From Their Jobs In The Public Sector During The 2nd Quarter Of 2018
A total of 1,431 expatriate employees were terminated from their jobs in the public sector during the second quarter of 2018. Therefore, the total number of expatriate employees whose services were terminated since the beginning of 2018 reached 1,629, reports Aljarida daily.
The abovementioned information was revealed by the second statistics of the year 2018 concerning state employees issued recently by Civil Service Commission’s Information Systems Center for the second quarter of 2018 until July 1. According to these statistics, the services of 666 expatriate employees were ended in 2017.
This means the number of expatriates whose services were ended in the first half of 2018 is more than twice the total number of terminated expatriates in the year 2017. This is due to implementation of the Kuwaitization (replacement) policy.
The total number of employees working in government offices and ministries is 352,165. The hiring of 2,478 Kuwaiti employees was the reason for the increase in this number from the end of the first quarter of 2018 when the total number of employees was 349,691.
The number of male employees in the second quarter is 148,257, representing 42.1 percent, which is an increase by 255 employees compared to the first quarter. The number of female employees in the second quarter is 203,912, representing 57.9 percent, which is an increase of 2,230 compared to the first quarter.

The number of Kuwaiti employees of both genders in government offices reached 268,100, representing 76.13 percent. The number of GCC employees is 4,521, which is 43 employees less that their number in the first quarter of 2018. The total number of Arab employees is 48,180, which is 1,157 employees lesser than their number in the first quarter of 2018.
The number of non- Arab employees is 31,368, which is a decrease by 228 employees compared to the first quarter of 2018. The statistics showed that Ministry of Education has the highest number of civil employees (114,868) followed by Ministry of Health (63,206), Ministry of Electricity and Water (21,025), Ministry of Interior (20,570), while the rest work in the other ministries.
The statistics revealed that the highest number of employees (83,743) is for educational and training positions, followed by administrative positions in second with 55,712 employees, medical positions with 50,411, engineering jobs with 43,511, commercial and trading jobs with 23,631 and lastly marine jobs with 572 employees.
There are 5,518 PhD holders working in the public sector. This number increased by 81 employees compared to the first quarter of 2018. The number of masters’ degree holders increased by 182 compared to the first quarter of 2018, reaching 11,623.
The number of highly qualified employees is 161,919, and the number of diploma holders is 54,584. The number of high school graduates and equivalent certifi- cates is 66,629, and the number of employees with qualifications lower than elementary level is 10,911 including 3,334 Kuwaitis. The statistics showed that 10,654 employees have more than 30 years of experience including 7,480 Kuwaitis.
