The Ministry of Social Affairs and Community Development is following up the process of handing over the children from the ‘Social Care Home’ to their mothers who have been identified with the help of their respective embassies.

This is in addition to coordinating efforts with the concerned authorities to hand over the ‘unknown’ elderly people to their families.

An official source told Al-Qabas the mothers of 13 children have been identified and they will be repatriated to their respective countries in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Last week two boys were repatriated and handed over to their mothers – one in India and the other in Sri Lanka.

The source confirmed the Undersecretary of the Social Welfare Sector, Musallam Al-Subaie in coordination with the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Plenipotentiary Sami Al-Rubayan, has made great efforts to reunite the children with their mothers.

The officials also discussed during meeting conditions of children and the elderly and the mechanism of handing them over to the embassies of their countries.

Speaking of the elderly people, the source indicated there are 3 elderly people of known nationality under the care of the Ministry for a long time, and coordination will be made with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to communicate with their families so that they can be reunited.

The Ministry of Social Affairs said in a press statement the ‘Social Welfare’ officials, in their meeting yesterday, provided a clear explanation of the status of these cases, the role that the Ministry plays in the social welfare sector in serving and caring for this category of people, and how best to resolve these outstanding issues.
