10 Types Of Uae Residency Schemes Explained

A number of reforms and updates to its entry and residency programs were announced by the UAE on Monday. New entry visas, residency options and a long-term residency program called Golden Visas will be included in the new system.

A five-year permit known as the Green Visa has been introduced as a major improvement to the country's residency system. There will be longer and more flexible grace periods that can last up to six months after the residence permit has been revoked or expired.

The government has outlined 10 residency schemes under four categories in addition to the Golden Visa:

Category 1: Jobs

Standard residence for employment

is the typical 2-year work visa.

Green card for skilled employees

allows them to stay for five years without a sponsor or employer. An applicant should have a valid employment contract, and be classified in one of the first, second, or third occupational levels, as determined by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. Minimum educational requirements include a bachelor's degree or equivalent, a salary of Dh15,000, and a minimum educational requirement of a bachelor's degree.

Green visa for freelancers

Flexibility is an important element of this program. Self-employed and freelancers are not required to have a sponsor or employer to apply for the 5-year residency program. In order to be eligible for a freelance or self-employment permit, applicants would need to apply with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization. A bachelor's degree or specialized diploma is the minimum education requirement, and self-employment income for the previous two years should not be less than 60,000 dirhams. In addition, the applicant can demonstrate financial solvency while residing in the country.

Category 2: Investment

Green Visa to Investors and Partners

Offering a five-year residency visa to investors seeking to establish or participate in business. Previous residency periods were only two years. Applicants must provide proof of investment and approval.

3 Category:Education

Education residence to students:

Students enrolled in educational institutions are eligible for this two-year residency. A licensed educational facility in the UAE sponsors the residency program.

4 Category: Live

Visa for family

Residents of the UAE may sponsor their family members, which includes their sons until they are 25 years old and unmarried daughters regardless of their age. Children of determination are also allowed to reside in the UAE regardless of their age. Holders of green visas can sponsor first degree relatives. The duration of residency for family members shall be the same as that for their sponsors.

Retirement

visas are valid for five years. Authorities announced previously that residency could be obtained by investing or earning an active income.

Remote work

An individual who holds a one-year visa can work for a company outside of the UAE while living in the UAE.

Real estate owners

are required to live there for two years.

For humanitarian purposes

A residency permit can be granted to three categories:

Female residents who have lost their husband, yet they have at least one child or more

With a foreign passport (parents or children of UAE citizens)

Spouses or children of GCC citizens who hold foreign passports.
