10 Men Attack Cop, Free Friend

05 July 2021 Crime News

Personnel from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have arrested 10 young men for assaulting a policeman of the General Traffic Department and enabling a reckless motorist to escape. This happened on a weekend when the citizens and residents are still recovering from the shocking murder of martyr Abdul Aziz Al-Rashidi who was slain in broad daylight. In the latest incident security sources said the Operations Room of the Ministry of Interior received a report a traffic policeman was being assaulted by 10 people when he was issuing a citation inside gas station on the Arabian Gulf Street.

The sources added the CID officers were able to apprehend the culprits, with the help of the footage of surveillance cameras installed at the gas station and the licence plate numbers of the vehicles noted down by the police officers. When the suspects were confronted with the documented proof, they claimed the officers did not show their IDs which prompted them to ‘help’ their friend. Nonetheless, all the suspects have been referred to the competent authorities, their vehicles impounded and towed to the police garage. This happened when the traffic police spotted a vehicle emitting annoying sounds from the exhaust. The vehicle was followed until the driver entered the gas station. As the traffic policeman went to the suspect to issue a citation, the driver alleged asked help from his friends, who were apparently in the vicinity and the friends came to his rescue and helped him to escape after allegedly ‘manhandling’ the policeman.
