Preachers Should Stay Away From Radical Thoughts
Minister of Justice, Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, Yaqoub Al-Sane in response to what had been published earlier by a local daily that an expatriate imam was promoting extremism and had since been suspended from work, said the ministry will not tolerate any preacher or imam who violates the Charter of the Mosques, reports Al- Qabas daily.
Preachers and imams, he stressed, must distance themselves from any radical thoughts and politics. Earlier it was reported a radical preacher and a imam was sacked in 2006 for misconduct and describing senior personalities in the country as infidel describing an Arab head of state as non-believer.
The source explained following his dismissal the preacher was appointed in the Encyclopedia of Jurisprudence and moved to another sector after several complaints were filed against him. The source noted the Guidance Committee of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs is expected to summon the preacher for interrogation.
The source said a report on interrogation will then be submitted to the minister for necessary action against him and the official who had been supporting him since 2006. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor is currently planning to dissolve the Board of the Cultural Society following the alleged involvement of some members of the Board of Directors in supporting the so-called Abdali Cell, reports Al-Rai daily. However, an official source said decision in this regard will be taken only if the involvement of the suspects has been proved beyond doubt.
