Kuwait Municipality Seized Tons Of Unsafe Foodstuff
The Public Relations Department at Kuwait Municipality has announced the accomplishments in December 2016, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
The department enumerated the achievements as follows: lifted 6,586 cargos of debris, collected fees that totaled KD 27,5291, confiscated and destroyed 47.8 tons of expired food products, issued 1,640 citations for different violations, and shut down 20 shops found to have violated regulations. Director of the Municipality branch in the Capital Governorate Eng Ammar Al-Ammar revealed a team from the Monitoring and Follow-up Department removed 597 illegal advertisements, and confiscated and destroyed 47.8 tons of foods found to be unsafe for human consumption from 550 shops. He said 464 samples of different products were referred to the Ministry of Health laboratories — 406 of which were found to be safe while the results of 58 samples are not yet ready.
He added the Food Monitoring Unit issued 185 citations, closed five shops, issued 273 certificates and collected fees which totaled KD 3,060. He went on to say the Emergency Team removed 366 illegal advertisements, issued 46 citations, distributed 30 notices to those who encroached on State properties, confiscated and destroyed 400 compact discs, and shut down eight shops. He disclosed that 25 pledges were made to comply with Municipality regulations.
The Cleaning and Road Occupancy Department team removed 125 abandoned vehicles, put 1,262 violation stickers, impounded 54 cars, issued 234 warnings, collected 6,586 cargos of debris, recorded 137 violations — 66 of which were settled amicably, 70 were referred to the Legal Department and one has yet to be decided. The department also issued 15 licenses and collected fees amounting to KD 32,931.
The Licenses Department collected fees that totaled KD 232,010 while the Safety Department completed 641 transactions, collected fees amounting to KD 1,972 and issued 95 licenses. Meanwhile, in an unrelated development, the General Department of Public Relations and Media Security of Ministry of Interior affirmed that investigations over the case of the death of a man who was found lying near a restaurant and was taken to his house by three men, was closed on Sunday, Jan 29 following the issuance of a report by the ministry and no criminal intent was discovered.
In a press statement issued by Ministry of Interior, the department explained that General Department of Criminal Evidences took great efforts to conduct the investigations. The Forensics report revealed that the man died of aortic calcification in the heart. It also indicated the presence of alcohol in the victim’s blood. The department affirmed that necessary action has been taken based on the official medical reports and the investigations, revealing that all individuals who were detained for interrogations have been released
