Father And Son Arrested For Obtaining The Kuwaiti Citizenship Fraudulently

11 April 2018 Crime News

Kuwaiti authorities have referred two Syrians, a man and his son, to the public prosecution for obtaining the Kuwaiti citizenship fraudulently.
According to the case documents, the father was hired to work in Kuwait in 1985; however, in 1991, and following the liberation war, he registered himself at the Central System for the Remedy of Status of Illegal Residents (CSRSIR) as a stateless individual.

He received assistance and was enlisted in the Kuwaiti army, advancing in his career until he was appointed officer and was given a 1,700 dinar monthly salary, Kuwaiti daily Al Rai reported on Tuesday.
He then conspired with a Kuwaiti national and gave him a 20,000 dinar bribe to register his son, born in 1991, as a Kuwaiti national.
The son obtained the citizenship in 2010 and subsequently joined the Special Forces at the Ministry of Interior.

However, the authorities eventually discovered the bogus citizenship scheme and confronted the son who confessed and led investigators to his father’s home.
A search of the house yielded the Syrian birth certificates and other documents proving the Syrian origin of the family, the daily added, citing a security source.
The Kuwaiti man who had received the bribe to register the Syrian son as his own and thus grant him Kuwaiti citizenship died last year, the source said.
Kuwaiti authorities have been actively engaged in a relentless fight against foreigners who were able to obtain Kuwaiti citizenship fraudulently, often conspiring with Kuwaiti citizens who accepted bribes to facilitate the process.
