The American Academy for Girls is part of the Al-Jeel Al-Jadeed Educational Institute founded in 1964. The institute began with one school, the Al-Jeel Al-Jadeed School in Hawally, and was later joined by the Nasser School in Salmiya in 1969. These two schools were joined in 1993 by The English Academy in Jabriya, the first school in Kuwait to take the title ‘Academy’ Following the founding of these three schools, the board then turned its attention to very different and very exciting project, the proposal being to establish a school based on the American educational system, to help the young women of Kuwait achieve their true educational potential. In 1995, a feasibility study was put to the Al-Jeel Al-Jadeed board by Mrs. Adelah Al-Sayer and Ms.Khaledah Al-Mudhaf, The Executive Director, and was accepted. This was the birth of The American Academy for Girls, a truly proud moment for Mrs. Al-Sayer, who also chose the school’s name. Then followed a period of intense preparation for the opening of the American Academy for Girls during which time the directors were joined by Mrs. Evelyn Fisher, who was later appointed AAG’s first Superintendent. Mrs. Fisher was instrumental in the founding organization of the school and her professional experience was invaluable to the board as she began the accreditation process in 1998. Mrs. Fisher left the school in the year 2000 and was succeeded by Mrs. Gwen Bestard. Under Mrs.Bestard’s leadership, AAG was awarded dual accreditation by the European Council of International Schools (ECIS) and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA) in the year 2001. It was a major accomplishment for a school so young to be awarded dual accreditation only six short years after it inception. The Director, Executive Director and all the board members take this opportunity to place on record their thanks to the entire staff for making AAG the greatest of successes, as the reading of their year’s excellent Yearbook superbly demonstrates . The Al-Jeel Al-Jadeed Educational Institute continues to be pioneering spirit in educational initiatives in Kuwait, a reputation the board is extremely proud to have and maintain.
