Description

True passion is essential to making great shoes. From drawing the first sketches to presenting our finished shoes in ECCO stores around the world, we apply the utmost attention to detail and quality.Unique to our industry, we make leather at our own tanneries and produce shoes at our own factories. Our global family of employees, representing over 50 nationalities, is the life force behind our products. Design, development, production, and retail – we take responsibility all the way.Throughout our history, our philosophy has been to make shoes that are shaped to fit the foot, not the other way around. This is who we are.At ECCO, we believe in controlling our processes and checking our products down to the smallest detail. This is possible because ECCO – as probably the world’s only major shoe company – owns and controls the whole shoemaking process from hide to High Street. From design and leather craftsmanship to production, quality testing and sales, ECCO controls every step of the shoemaking process, ensuring the high ECCO quality.ECCO wishes to be as close to our customers as possible. Therefore, we manage our sales activities close to the shoe stores in three regions – North America, Asia Pacific and Europe, Middle East & Africa. These three regions cover some 90 markets in which ECCO products are for sale – just about half of the world’s countries. We distribute via wholesale, retail, e-commerce and m-commerce.It is our aim to ensure that consumers get an attractive shopping experience at every touch point they have with the ECCO brand. We sell our shoes and accessories from 1,100 ECCO stores and at 14,000 other selling points in some 90 countries. That is a lot of places for your feet to feel what real comfort is.Every year ECCO typically opens 120-150 new branded stores, a proportion of which are relocations or refitting of existing stores.ECCO’s factories are managed based on the lean manufacturing philosophy, in which the employees are highly involved in working with continuous improvements. The result of this work is tangible and shared across ECCO\'s five shoe factories to constantly increase efficiency and stay competitive.ECCO Leather owns and operates tanneries in China, the Netherlands, Indonesia, and Thailand. These state-of-the-art tanneries offer secure production capabilities and scale to suit growing customer demand as well as seamless communication with ECCO’s shoe factories.More than 200 hands touch every piece of leather before it leaves the building – surely the ultimate symbol of craftsmanship and quality control. In ECCO’s beamhouse, rawhides are washed several times in large drums to remove dirt, hair and natural fat. The hides are also processed in various machines that cut off the excess fat and make the hides slim.In the tannery, the hides undergo a tanning process to make them soft, flexible and stable in water. The hides are then referred to as wet blue because of the blue-green shade which they acquire when they are treated. The wet blue is tanned in drums with colour and is dried, stretched, sprayed and pressed to get the right look, feel and quality of the finished leather.
